Treasure Hunts and Mastodons

iPad Fun

iPad Fun

Well, my No. 1 Son got off to the airport ok this morning and this time, he made his flight.  Poor little Spud had a rough night, though, so Mommy didn’t get a lot of sleep.  He might be coming down with a cold and he slept very fitfully.  So today he was a little cranky and we had to look for lots of ways to distract him.  The mini-iPad did a good job for awhile.  He entertained himself for a good long time playing puzzles on it.

Drawing a House

Drawing a House

Sweet Pea was excited to have her mommy draw a pretend house on some butcher-block paper on the floor and then she took some little people and animal toys and placed them in different areas of her new “house” and played with that for awhile.

A Fun Treasure Hunt

A Fun Treasure Hunt

While the children played, Mommy made up a series of clues for a treasure hunt and put them in different envelopes to hide.  Each envelope had a word on the front.  Sweet Pea had to read the word and that unlocked the envelope so that she could open it up and pull out the clue to see where the next clue could be found.  Even my Elizabeth made it on one clue.

It’s a great way to make a game of reading.  The clue envelopes mixed simple words that Sweet Pea could sound out with simple “sight words.”

The final clue led Sweet Pea to the top of her bunk bed where she found a little present for both herself and her brother.  Both children had a lot of fun opening up their presents and playing with the toys for the afternoon.

It's a Mastodon

Later this evening, after supper, Spud found a Mastodon hat and wore it around the house for quite a while.  I’m amazed he wasn’t walking into walls, because we couldn’t see his face.

He even insisted on wearing it at the table when he popped up there for an evening snack.  My, my, Spud!  What big tusks and snout you have!

Chai Tea

Chai Tea

Sweet Pea relaxed with a little chai tea and then it was time for bed.  I think I’m not far behind.  There is a good book that is calling my name.  It’s the last of a 3-book series and I’m almost finished with it.  So goodnight from the great state of Texas.
