Who Stole Our Snow?

There used to be a sidewalk here.

Oh, boy!  I had heard the weekend weather forecast earlier in the week.  It looked like we might get some snow.  First they were predicting the possibility of a significant snowfall, similar to the one pictured above.

I come for a visit and end up shoveling snow.

I come for a visit and end up shoveling snow.

That was the year that our son and his family came up for a visit and we had not one, but two big snowfalls.  Poor Jason got put to work shoveling us out.  He sure earned his keep that visit.

Don't think there will be mail today.

Don’t think there will be mail today.

He dutifully cleared a path to our mailbox but we didn’t get any mail because the entire street was filled with almost two feet of snow.  It took awhile for the township to get our street cleared and for services to be restored.

Even the Frederick, MD area can muster a decent snowfall.

Back to the present, as the week progressed, the snowfall predictions grew smaller and smaller.  It began to look like most of the snow would miss us and hit the Boston area instead.  Darn!  We haven’t had a decent blizzard in over two years.  Truth be told, we haven’t even had a decent snowfall in that amount of time.

I REALLY was yearning for a good ‘ole Nor’easter so that I could be snowbound and sit inside with my books beside a crackling fire.  If I got bored with that, I could make a foray into the kitchen and head downstairs to melt into the recliner, put on the TV, and pick up my knitting.

Here, Kitty, Kitty!

Here, Kitty, Kitty!

By yesterday, the final predictions were calling for us to get 2-4 inches.  Boston was supposed to get almost 3 feet of snow.  Phooey!  They were going to get our snowstorm.

Gee, maybe I should get out the snowblower.

Gee, maybe I should get out the snowblower.

Here is the snow we actually got.  When I woke up this morning and headed downstairs to let Toto out, this is the scene that greeted me.  Golly!  I don’t know if I can stand the excitement.  We wuz robbed!

Poor you. Me? I’d rather have that dusting of snow than piles of it.

Those photos of your big snowfall look like more snow than we normally have, for sure. Still, as far as I’m concerned, we have more than enough – actually, it is probably knee deep on an adult ….. or it was, before a week of above freezing temperatures. At least the farmers should be happy with the amounts we’ve had so far this year. Would have been better for it not to begin melting before the ground thaws, though. Still, there is lots of time before spring for another storm or two – and another plunge into a deep freeze. (Hope not, though)

I know. I shouldn’t complain. I just always figure if it has to be cold, we might as well have some pretty snow, too as long as it isn’t ice. Then again, when I see the pictures from New England right now with all that snow, maybe I should be pretty grateful that we got just a dusting, eh?
