Snowmen are Invading

From our Window

From our Window

We got some nice, wet snow yesterday and when the Commander arrived home last night, the first words out of his mouth were “It is gorgeous outside.”  He’s not one to wax poetic so if the beauty of Mother Nature impressed him, I figured it MUST look pretty nice.

Off to the Grocery Store

Off to the Grocery Store

We’re due for another storm to come into our area tonight into tomorrow, bringing snow and then significant ice so the Commander suggested I might want to get out today “while the getting’s good.”  I decided he was probably right so off I headed to the grocery store.  It WAS beautiful.  I wish I could have captured some of the scenes better.  Back inside our subdivision, it was much prettier but I didn’t think to whip out my phone until I was closer to the store.

Even though it was getting warmer, there was still snow clinging to the branches, creating a lovely white lacy effect.

A Canopy of White

A Canopy of White

I thought it was fitting that the Winter Olympics are starting this week.  I always admire those giant fir trees laden with snow that you see during the winter games.  I could almost imagine that I was on my way to Soshi.

A Cheery Chap

A Cheery Chap

I noticed that some of the folks in our neighborhood had been busy yesterday and this morning building snowmen.  They were quite charming and I couldn’t resist taking a bit of a longer route back to my house to capture a few for you.

This stalwart fellow looks like he’s sporting a mohawk hairdo along with a spiffy scarf.

Ladybug Hat

This snowman has obviously NOT been working out at the gym.  I can identify.  She’s lost her waistline somewhere along the way but she’s rocking a pretty awesome little ladybug cloche hat and neat yellow buttons.

Mother and Son

Mother and Son

My favorite, though, was this mother and son duo.  Mom has a jaunty hat on her head and her little son is ready to play some baseball, judging by the bat next to him and the baseball helmet on his head.  I at first thought they had a little cat next to them but I since have decided that they decided to accessorize their snow-selves with the family “piglet” which is probably a remnant from the fellow in our neighborhood who usually sets out a whole yard-ful of these little pigs right before every election with signs saying things like “They’re all pigs.  Vote them out.”

Downton Abbey Sampler Scarf

And now that I’m all stocked up on groceries for the next round of storms, I can settle back with my Downton Abbey knitting.  I’m working on the Downton Abbey Sampler Scarf, a great way to use up bits of yarn from your stash.  Each little rectangle is designed around a character from the TV show and it is fast and easy knitting.  The pattern is by Paige Waffle and is available as a free download on Ravelry.
