Lightening the Load

Nana's Nutritious Breakfasts

Nana’s Nutritious Breakfasts

We had a full workday today at the house, both the menfolk and Nana and the kidlets.  Our day started with a good, nutritious breakfast. Well, mostly it was good and nutritious.  Sweet Pea wanted a hot dog and noodles.  That’s what she got.  How often do I get to spoil my grandchildren, eh?

Cleaning out the garage and garage attic

Cleaning out the garage and garage attic

It was a beautiful, albeit cold day which was good because the fellows headed off to the garage to clean it out and cull out what could go up on Craig’s List and what should go to Goodwill or to the trash.  We’d already notified our trash folks that we’d have lots for them to pick up.    While the guys labored in the dust, I took Spud and Sweet Pea on a walk with Toto.  We had fun spotting flowers and making bird calls to the birds that we heard in the neighborhood.  Then the kids got cold so we headed back.

I found it interesting to see some of the things that Jason and the Commander thought would sell on Craig’s List.  I had a unique BIG wooden Cow mailbox that will probably sell.  But some of the other stuff…..I just don’t know.  I mean, who would want to buy a bunch of old suitcases?  I just rolled my eyes and went back inside.

In the meantime, the garage had been cleared out and the guys started in on the attic over the garage.  There were many things up there that could go in the trash but there were also some things that someone might be interested in.  I got a kick out of some of the “poses” that Jason was shooting in preparation for his advertising.

While the guys continued to labor out in the garage, the kidlets and I played a lot of games and make-believe fun.  At one point, we went out into the sunroom and I set up a long nylon tunnel that I used to use for dog agility training.  Boy, did they have fun crawling through that over and over again.  Too bad that I didn’t have some jumps to set up.  When we finally had exhausted MY energy, we all trooped downstairs to watch some Kipper the Dog cartoons (and I got to do some knitting).

Sweet Pea was on one recliner and Spud was on the other, along with his buddy, Toto.  Occasionally Toto would switch places with Luke and the scene would look like this below:

Hi, Nana!

Hi, Nana!

By the end of the day, we were all pretty tired.  Jason rallied to head over to church to talk to the Women’s Missionary Union group while Papa and I entertained the kidlets some more.

I had given baths and read books to them and then Papa got to keep them entertained while I snapped pictures.  Which reminds me….I never seem to get pictures of the grandchildren with me since I’m always the one who takes the pictures.  Hmmm, I think I need to have the guys take a few before this visit is over.

Just Hanging Out!

Just Hanging Out!

By the time Daddy came home, we were all just kind of hanging out and waiting to head to bed.  It was a good day and we made a lot of progress in lightening the load.   That picture of the curbside trash doesn’t even begin to show you what went out.  Probably about half of what we set out was snapped up by folks who cruise the neighborhood on the night before trash pickup.  That’s fine, though.  I like the idea of others being able to reuse our things.

Can’t wait to see what’s on the agenda for tomorrow.  First though, I’m off to take some Ibuprofen and then I’m off to bed.  Time to read!
