In a Knitting Funk!

The Needle Graveyard

The Needle Graveyard

For some reason, I’ve been in a knitting funk lately.  I just can’t seem to find a project that I like and then stick with it.  I’ve started so many these past few weeks.  Then I’ll knit away for a few days and decide that I’m not really enjoying the process or the project or even the feel of the yarn and I just pull it off the needles and unravel everything.  My worktable is beginning to look like a needle graveyard with all the sets of needles that I’ve put down from discarded projects.

Nope, didn't like this project either.

Nope, didn’t like this project either.

Do you ever find yourself not able to hit your stride as a knitter?  Do you wonder why this happens?  I really DO get into a panic if I don’t have something to knit on when we sit down to watch a TV show.  It just feels like I’m wasting time.  However, I can’t tell you how many times lately that I’ve knit feverishly away for hours in the evening only to chuck the whole project the next morning.

Unsalvageable!

Unsalvageable!

Sometimes, I’ll revisit a completed project and decide that it just doesn’t fit correctly and that I’m never going to wear it.  In those instances, I “frog” or unravel as much as I can to reuse the yarn and pitch the rest.

Now what was THIS for?

Now what was THIS for?

Then there’s the yarn I’ve had sitting around for a project only I can’t remember what that project was.  I picked up these coordinating skeins at my local yarn shop after I saw something there knit up that I wanted to try.  But for the life of me, I couldn’t remember what that project was.  To compound the frustration, I had purchased two different combinations of yarn so that I could knit up TWO versions of the item.  Aaaargh!

I THINK I finally have a winner!

I THINK I finally have a winner!

Finally, today I was going through some of my patterns and came across Metalouse by Stephen West.  Ah-ha!  I do believe this was the project I had been thinking of when I had purchased that yarn.  So today I started Metalouse and so far, I’m enjoying knitting on it.  I think I might actually continue without tearing it off the needles in apathy, boredom, or frustration.  Yay!  Could my funk finally be coming to an end?
