Home Remodel – Day Seven

Dining Room - Old Version

Dining Room – Old Version

OK, to refresh your memory…here is how our dining room originally looked.  Well, it didn’t have the wallpaper half torn off but you can get the picture.  The bottom was a plaid tartan printed wallpaper, there was a cow border, chair rail, and then a cream and pale green mattress-ticking wallpaper print on the top.

Same wall – Newly stripped

Here’s the same wall with all of the above-mentioned things stripped off and newly-painted.  I apologize right now for the fact that I haven’t been able to capture the color of the wall properly.  I just can’t seem to do it.  In some pictures, it looks like an icy blue.  In others, it looks pale aqua.  In a few, it looks more green.  Suffice it to say that it is a gray-green color that I’d say is like a mossy thyme  or sage color.

See what I mean about the color changing?  One thing that is obvious to me is that I need to get out and buy some new tablecloths.  All of the ones I have are geared towards the old color scheme.

No more chair-rail.  It seems to open up the room a bit and with the subtle difference in color between the living room and the dining area, it helps differentiate the two spaces.

Here we are looking from the kitchen out into the dining room and gazing at the doors that lead to the sunporch.  You can get a hint of the greenish color of the walls here.  Just try to imagine them a little grayer.  I know, it’s SO subtle and so very hard to describe.

Walls Stripped

So, on to the upstairs Master Bath.  When last I left you there, it was a major disaster.  Well, things have improved a bit.  The wallpaper has been stripped and the glue has been cleaned off of the walls.

Drywall patched

The drywall has been patched in the spots where it needs to be patched.  The mounds of old wallpaper have been picked up and put into trash bags to go out with the trash.

Waiting for sanding

Waiting for sanding

That just leaves some final sanding and then the painting of the bathroom.  That should be the last of the work on this phase of things.  I can’t tell you how eager I am for this to be finished.  Toto says, “Me, too!”
