Another Full Day with the Grands

Let's Make a Tent

Let’s Make a Tent

Our day started early with both grandchildren up and bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.  The children were at odds as to what they wanted to do so I suggested building a tent.  That sounded great to them so we rigged up a little shelter with some help from the piano bench and some of the toys.

Can you see me?

Can you see me?

Luke grabbed his baby doll and brought her into the tent and joined his sister who was telling me a big story about how all the animals were staying out of the rain.  I “supervised” from the comfort of a nearby recliner, occasionally having to leap up and repair the tent.

After everyone was dressed and had played for a bit, we headed off to visit with Grandma Toots (their great-grandma and my mom).  Unfortunately, I just realized that I didn’t take any pictures.  I guess that’s because I was crying too much and trying to hide it from the kids.  Mom was not in good shape today.  She was very unresponsive.  I don’t think it even registered with her that her great-grandchildren were there.  She did mention Jason’s name when we told her he was there.  It just makes me so sad to think that they’ll never have the chance to see her as the fun-loving, vibrant person she was with my children.

A Toddler Version of Chutes and Ladders

On the way back from the nursing home, we stopped at a local pet rescue organization and dropped off some crates, pet carriers, and leashes that I had around the house and am not using.  I know they’ll find a good use there.

Then the children wanted to play some more games so we went out on the sunporch and I brought out Chutes and Ladders.  Spud wanted to “drive” his car over the game board while Sweet Pea was more interested in taking the game pieces apart.

It's broken again, Nana.

WHAT game board?

WHAT game board?

Spud gave up on the game-board and just drove his car over the coffee table.  Then he was on the lookout for something else to do.  Well, I had just the thing.

I found a duster and he went to town dusting everything, including his sister and Toto.  We’re all a little cleaner tonight, thanks to Spud.

I found a Thomas the Train book and that entertained Spud for awhile although we never quite got to the end of one song before he’d punch a different button and we’d be off on another song.

Then it was time for Sweet Pea to have a major meltdown but eventually the skies turned sunny again and all was right with her world. They had fun at bathtime with some foam soap I have and then it was time for some bedtime snacks before saying goodnight.

Goodnight, All!

Goodnight, All!
